Rockcliffe Hall - Brain Health
This evening, I had the pleasure of hosting a talk for members of Rockcliffe Hall, Hotel and Spa. As resident nutritionist, this is one of many talks I host and this evening it was lovely to see some new and familiar faces. We talked all things brain health! Some snippets follow:
Eat plenty of good fats! Good fats include sources of omega 3 such as nuts and seeds and oily fish.
Hydration - drink at least 2L of water a day to avoid dehydration.
Berries, dark chocolate and red wine all contain polyphenols which have been shown to be anti-inflammatory and great sources of antioxidants - very important for a healthy brain.
Turmeric - the active compound in turmeric is curcumin, a potent anti-inflammatory which can be taken as a supplement.
Iron deficiency has been linked to poor cognitive function - food sources include red meat, fish, dark green leafy vegetables and pulses.
Exercise - movement increases BDNF, a neurohormone which is influencial in neurogenesis, in simple terms, it helps to lay down new, healthy brain cells.
And plenty more… join us next time!
